About Us
What we believe.
Freeport Mennonite Church is a community of imperfect people who are saved by God's incredible grace and are dedicated to following Christ. We are diverse in our ages, vocations, and backgrounds.
Established in 1845, Freeport Mennonite Church is one of the oldest continuing congregations in Illinois. Its roots and future are part of the Christian church established by Christ and intended to spread around the world, especially as it is expressed in the peace churches of the Anabaptist tradition. This tradition places a particular emphasis on the believer's baptism, following the ethic taught by Jesus Christ in his Sermon on the Mount, and being in the world but not of it.
The purpose of Freeport Mennonite Church is to participate in Christ’s Great Commission: spreading the gospel throughout the world, living out and communicating the teachings of Jesus Christ, and gathering to worship God and support each other by remembering that Christ is with us.
